Sponsor one of our hives

Follow a honeybee colony through a Devon year.

Two wooden National beehives with galvanised roofs on a black metal stand, in front of an ivy-covered stone wall.

Our hives are in a family garden near Newton Abbot. Your sponsorship helps keep them healthy, and you get the inside story: what the bees are doing, what's in flower, and how the honey turns out.

We keep a small number of hives, so places are limited.

Places for 2027: 3 business sponsor places and 15 gift places left.

What happens

Your year with the bees

  1. When you sign up

We email an invoice to pay by bank transfer. Once it's paid, your certificate arrives within a week, and the plaque goes on the hive.

  2. A brood frame lifted out during an inspection, with capped brood and a crowd of bees. Spring

The first inspection. Has the colony come through winter, and is the queen laying?

  3. The entrance of a hive crowded with bees on a warm day. Early summer

Swarm season, the busiest time in the hive.

  4. Three honey supers stacked in a kitchen, waiting to be extracted. Late summer

The harvest. Supers off, honey spun and jarred, and your jars go out.

  5. Our hives side on, with their roofs on, at the end of the season. Winter

How we've put the bees to bed.

The honest bits

The honey
The honey comes from our apiary's harvest. It may not come from one particular hive.
The bees
Bees don't always cooperate. If a colony fails or swarms, your sponsorship moves to another of our colonies, and we'll tell you why.
A poor summer
We only take honey the bees can spare. If a poor summer leaves no surplus, we'll tell you and send your jars from the next harvest.
Visits
No visits, sorry. The hives are in our family garden, so you'll see everything through the updates instead.
Delivery
Free around Newton Abbot, or posted for the cost of postage.

For estates, hotels and venues

Hives on your own land

We can also install and look after hives on your land, for estates, hotels, venues and larger sites within about 30 minutes of Newton Abbot. We take on one site a year, by arrangement.

Prices start at £4,000 a year for a site, including setup and management.
